Bubble Shooter
Posted by: Admin, February 18 2012 - 0 comments

Ever since games saw the light of day, they have been restlessly modified to suit the gamers’ equally changing taste, although some game stayed the same throughout the years, and a good example would be bubble shooter. Now this particular game has not changed much because, well, there’s no need to! It’s the same fun that you know and love, and while the presentation style looks a bit dated, there’s no reason for you to not have a good time.

If simplicity is beauty, then this game would have been the Mona Lisa, and while it really that much artistic in a sense, the gameplay still retains its charm. Nostalgia is at work here, and once you see that colorful cluster of bubbles, you’ll almost instinctively know what to do. Burst them by matching three or more of the same colored bubbles together. Simply use the mouse to aim your launcher to the left or to the right, and then click to shoot your bubble! There are some tricks for you to learn to make the game more interesting, like when you clear a line of bubbles and different colored bubbles are also hanging onto that line for dear life, then they get popped too! This is called an avalanche, and of course, more bubbles popped at the same time means a higher score! Try to score high because you can later send your score to the leaderboards, and it feels good to be a leader.

There’s just one game mode available for this game, and it’s play-at-your-leisure mode. But, even though there is no pressure for this game, you still shouldn’t waste your shots. Before you get lost in this game and shoot bubbles randomly, be reminded that there is such a thing as “fouls” in this game. If you shoot, and it didn’t clear a line of bubbles, well, do that a lot and a new line of bubbles appear from the top of the game screen. The number of fouls is shown as silver balls next to your launcher, and bubble shooter doesn’t want you to get too many fouls so as a form of help, the next bubble is shown on the left of your launcher. Now when too many new lines appear on the game screen and the cluster is already near your launcher, say your prayers. Let one bubble touch the bottom of the screen and it’s game over. Actually, there will be a lot of bubbles from the start of the game, so problems come early.

The settings can be changed in game. At the right of your game screen there’s the setup button and there you can change the color of your background, or the difficulty of the game, or activate the animation to make random bubbles shake up for no apparent reason, or see other features that can only be used in the deluxe version of the game. You can have a good time in playing this game, and you almost don’t have to wait for it to load since the game is very small, thanks to its minimal graphics.

Tilt 2

When you see that a particular game is the sequel already, you know that the first one must have been a game that tickled the gamer inside a lot of people. That’s how it is for Tilt 2, and we know what happens in every second version of a game; it is either improved, or changed. It was the latter for this one, although the fun and entertainment of the first game remains intact.

Do you remember balancing sticks in your hand (or a finger if you’re that awesome) and moving to the left or to the right to keep the stick from falling? Well that idea was used by Alex Heaton, an England-based web and business developer and that’s what pushed the Tilt games into existence. It must be one of the simplest mechanics ever thought of for a game and everyone will surely feel the need to not let go of the mouse soon enough after a first try.

You start with something to balance hanging down from your mouse cursor, flip it and the game starts. In the first game, you balance a dish on top of a stick. When you reach a certain score, the stick becomes shorter, making it harder to balance. In Tilt 2, you are now balancing a Y-shaped stick, a bit easier right? Not until you find out that balls will be raining from above. They will accumulate on top of your stick, but you can manage a few balls. As you play longer, you’ll forget that this is an “easy” game. The challenge arises and finally when you can’t balance anymore, the stick will slowly tip to a side, stopping your hard earned score from getting any better. But a competitive man cannot accept a score too low! You’ll be flipping that stick back up again until you’re satisfied with your score, or if you’re already too frustrated because you can’t go past 500.

If you have played the first game, you’ll notice that the background music is gone. The insults shown after a game over is also absent in the second game. But don’t let that stop you? It’s still the fine game that you’ll want to play over and over again for a couple of times to prevent a possible death-by-boredom.

Vector Runner

I was shocked and didn’t even suspect that a game as simply designed as Vector Runner, would be able to satisfy a need for speed. What this game lacks in visual grandness, it makes up for with an exciting driving game that would certainly pump a little adrenaline off your glands.

It would seem a little uninteresting and confusing at first when you just look at the thumbnail, but when you have already started the game and grasped the instructions at the beginning, brace yourselves for some crazy fast driving action. This game is already featured on different websites and even has an iphone version! So what makes it so good?

You would be steering a blue rectangular vector and drive through a long, black highway and I have to say it isn’t as easy as it sounds. The left and right arrow buttons are the only directions you’d be pressing, because it has auto-accelerate and absolutely no brakes (you can press enter to pause the game but it would take away 250 points and it will also signify that you are not awesome). You will avoid many obstacles that randomly spawn ahead of you like pyramids and EMP mines that will blind you for a bit that would make you hit who-knows-how-many of those triangle vectors and sticking as close to the side won’t help you stay alive for long. And when you do drive through one, it will would bust one of your shields, decrease your speed, and make your screen flash red; enough to give you a mini-heart attack. Collect the power-up cubes for bonus points, shield recharges and invincibility for a limited time. You just have to drive by it closely enough to get it but be careful because sometimes they will appear very near to a pyramid vector and you might hit it which is of course not cool.

Soon, the speed would be very incomprehensible and you may not be able to make proper judgments in time and have a game over before your score gets too high for you to be proud enough to submit it to the leader boards. By then, you would be driving with pure instinct, see how much this game does to you?

It may not be the most colourful game around, and the objects in the game do not contain much visual design, in fact they are just polygons that you would be passing by as you speed through the darkness, but that’s okay because graphics aren’t really necessary in a game, or at least, in this one. The beating music of the game is very good though and, and the sound of your car is very much like a hovercraft in futuristic movies which makes the ride much more exhilarating. Even if you have already played it multiple times, you’d still play some more to get a high score that you can submit for a little comparison with others who also took up the challenge, same as you. Overall, the game gets an 8.5 over 10. Fasten your seatbelts!

Pursuit of Hat

Here's a cute and clever puzzle game. Pursuit of the hat has you playing a small sock puppet character that keeps having his hat teleporting to different areas of the map of you have to solve puzzles in order for you to get him back to his beloved purple hat. Now the difference with this game is that you have to rip off your own limbs in order to complete the puzzles. No need to worry no gore there just little teddy limbs. So those who are close to their stuffed friends may want to stay away from this game. The game involves you ripping of your arms and legs in order to push down buttons, weigh down lift etc.

This cute guy can eventually end up just being a head allowing you to sneak into little gaps to reach your lovely hat. At the start of each level however your limbs re-appear and your free to start ripping some stitching again. The game is very fun to play and will have you thinking about how to pass certain levels. There are cute little animations involved such as scrambling up ridges and how to run without legs or arms, hopping happily along. You mainly find yourself blocked by many candy cane poles and have to press certain buttons in order for you to reach your hat. These buttons, as mentioned above, need to be kept down in order for the candy canes to stay down.

This is the main reason why this game make you think. You will need to find the perfect areas to put your discarded limbs and will spend much time clicking the R button in order to repeat the level. The second of the obstacles you will be commonly faced with are the "scales", two large wooden lifts that react to the amount of weight the have on them. For example all four of your limbs equal your body's weight. This requires you to put a bit more thinking into your adventure. Think hard and you'll soon find yourself thinking "Why didn't I just do that in the first place?". This game captures the best and most fun parts of a puzzle game and I can see why it was rated so high. You'll find yourself longing to reach that cave where the little hat is stored even if it takes 300 retries.

The game involves many mechanics which your character can interact with. The most fun of which I find to be the cannon. You can't help but laugh as your little puppet character is launched through the air towards his goal. The game has great artistic features and I find it appealing to watch and see how the designer portrays your little guy's journey. This puzzle game kept me busy for a while and not once did I consider giving up as I knew there just had to be a way I could get my limb to fall this way or at the right angle. I eventually passed on through feeling good with myself for that never give up attitude and hopefully you can feel the same. Good luck on playing this game and try not to tare too much of your hair out as you ponder what to do next.
